An acoustic pod is a small room you can place on an open floor without building a wall. Offices search for them when calls, interviews, and deep work have nowhere to go except a boardroom that is always booked. This page explains the types, what speech privacy actually depends on, and what a Johannesburg tower will allow through the goods lift. The service is acoustic pods and display units. If the whole floor is the project, start with office fit-outs in Johannesburg.
What a pod is
A pod is a self-contained volume: shell, door, lining, ventilation, light, and power. It is not a phone booth from a catalogue photo until those five exist. The lining and the seal do the acoustic work. Glass lets the floor stay visually open. Timber or fabric softens it. Without a planned air path, a sealed box becomes a warm cupboard in a Highveld afternoon.
Display units and feature counters are a different product on the same service page. Do not brief a pod when you need a showroom plinth, or the reverse.
Phone booth or meeting pod
A single-person focus booth is for a call or an hour of quiet. The footprint has to sit between desks without blocking a walkway. A meeting pod seats two to four, with a table, and it behaves like a bookable room. Corporate meeting pods with glass doors and internal seating are the larger object. Choose by the meeting you cannot hold today, not by the largest box that fits in a render.
A single meeting pod or phone booth typically runs 5–9 weeks from signed drawings, depending on glass, linings, power, and tower access.
What speech privacy depends on
Privacy is the door seal, the lining, and the gap under the door, not a marketing word on the glass. An open-plan floor with hard ceilings will still hear a shout. A pod lowers that to a murmur outside if it is built as a sealed volume and placed away from the noisiest print room. We do not promise a laboratory rating the product was never tested to. We do line the shell, seal the door, and put power where a laptop can charge without a lead across the floor.
Ventilation has to be quiet. A fan louder than the office is not privacy. Plan the air path in the drawing.
Power, and whether it fits the lift
Sandton and Rosebank towers move pods through a goods lift, often in parts. Measure the lift and the corridor before you fall in love with a one-piece shell. Internal desks need a power niche and a USB point. The floor needs a circuit that is not the last socket on a tea-point spur. A pod with no power is a quiet cupboard.
Place it so the door does not open into a fire route. A beautiful booth in the escape path will be moved, and moving it is a second install.
What to send
Send the floor plan, how many people need quiet at once, and a photo or size of the goods lift. Tell us if you need a call booth or a meeting pod. We will say which one the floor can take before anything is built in Booysens.
